How to Use a Cue Lathe:
Want to repair the pool cues yourself?
But I don't know how to use a cue lathe. Now this article teaches you how to use a pool cue lathe.
What You’ll Need
A pool cue lathe
The cue you want to work on
Replacement tips, ferrules, or other components (as needed)
Sandpaper, adhesive, and other accessories (depending on the task)
Step 1: Set Up the Cue Lathe
Assemble the billiard cue trimmer, place it on a stable table, and secure it to prevent it from moving during operation. Connect the power supply and turn on the switch.
Step 2: Prepare the Cue
Wipe the cue shaft clean of dust and dirt, check for damage or repairs, and if the cue is a two-piece cue, separate the shaft and butt for later repairs.
Step 3: Secure the Cue in the Lathe
Align the Cue: Position the shaft in the lathe, ensuring it’s centered.
Step 4: Maintenance and care as needed
Here are some common tasks you can perform with your lathe:
Tip Replacement:
Use the lathe to remove the old tip.
Sand the ferrule surface to prepare for a new tip.
Apply adhesive and attach the new tip, letting the lathe hold it in place as it dries.
Shaft Sanding and Polishing:
Set the lathe to rotate the shaft slowly.
Use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out imperfections.
Finish with a polishing cloth or compound for a sleek, smooth finish.
Straightening:
Rotate the shaft in the lathe and identify any warping.
Use the straightening tool (if available) to gently realign the shaft.
Ferrule Replacement:
Remove the damaged ferrule using the lathe.
Sand and prepare the shaft end.
Attach and secure the new ferrule.
Step 5: Final Touches
Inspect Your Work: Once the maintenance is complete, inspect the cue for smoothness and alignment.
Reassemble the Cue: If you disassembled it earlier, reattach the shaft to the butt.
Test It Out: Try a few practice shots to ensure the repairs are effective and the cue feels right.
Precautions:
During operation, protective gloves need to be worn to ensure safe operation, and the power supply should be disconnected after the repair and maintenance work is completed.
Clean the pool cue lathe to ensure it is in good working condition and has a long service life.
